Orca exhibit makes a splash at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry

Picture the Pacific Northwest and immediately thoughts of a misty rain, strong coffee, pine forests and more rain come to mind. But for some, this may be rocky cliffsides covered with puffins, thousands of salmon pouring in and out of estuaries and even a pod of orca’s navigating the seas offshore.

Orcas have called the oceans and waters of the Pacific Northwest home for centuries and are some of the region’s most iconic marine residents. That’s why OMSI is hosting an exhibit that celebrates these animals and all that they provide to the environment and the people that live here.

In recent years, some orcas off the Oregon coast have faced starvation as their favorite foods, such as salmon, dwindle. That’s why we are working alongside our partners at Environment Washington to save them. It’s important that we do all we can to protect these creatures and the wondrous seascapes they inhabit.
